Asphalt paving for parking lots, roads and overlays

A new asphalt surface is only as good as what sits under it. Before we quote a lot, we walk it: where water stands after a rain, where the base has pumped up through cracks, where delivery trucks turn, and where the old surface is simply worn thin. That walk decides whether you need a mill-and-overlay, a full-depth replacement in a few failed areas, or new pavement from the stone up.

For most commercial properties in the Louisville and Elizabethtown area the choice comes down to three options. An overlay puts a new wearing course over pavement that is still structurally sound. Milling first keeps the finished grade even with curbs, drains and doorways. Full-depth work removes failed sections, corrects the base and repaves them, and it is the only real fix for alligator cracking caused by a weak base.

We run machine-laid work with pavers sized to the job, from narrow paths to open lots, and hand-lay and plate-compact the tight corners a machine can't reach. The goal is the same on every job: proper compaction, clean joints and seams that are raked and rolled tight, and enough slope to move water off the surface and toward the drains.

Timing matters. Asphalt is placed hot and needs moderate temperatures to compact properly, so most paving in Kentucky happens between spring and late fall. How long before we can drive on new asphalt?

Cars can usually use a new surface the next day, but heavy trucks, dumpsters and sharp turning should wait longer, especially in hot weather. We give you the specific timing for your job when we finish.

Do I need an overlay or a full replacement?

If the base is sound and the cracking is mostly on the surface, an overlay is usually the better value. Widespread alligator cracking, potholes that keep coming back or soft spots mean the base has failed in those areas and needs full-depth work first.
